COLONIA
2024Colonia is a photobook examining the evolving relationship between American expatriates and local residents in the Roma and Condesa neighborhoods—colonias—of Mexico City. The term colonia operates here as both a geographic designation and a conceptual framework, pointing to the layered histories of settlement and the contemporary conditions of cultural and economic colonization reshaping these areas. Since 2018, I have been repeatedly visiting and documenting, in digital and 35mm film photography, these neighborhoods, tracing the visible and social impacts of accelerated gentrification shaped by tourism and remote work
